Juice Fasting and Detoxification

The human body is filled with toxins, which we can acquire from the food we eat and the environment we live in – our regular food contains numerous preservatives and chemicals, and our environment is polluted, affecting the water we drink and the air we breathe. The accumulation of these toxins can result in damage to our cells and tissues, and eventually manifest as different kinds of diseases.

To prevent the accumulation of these toxins, it is necessary that we detoxify our bodies. One way to do that is to undergo juice fasting.

Juice fasting is a form of detoxification, wherein fruits and vegetables are used to make juices for your consumption. Animal products, including meat, poultry and fish, are removed from the diet. The amount of juice you should take may vary, depending on the faster. Usually, however, the amount is not restricted.

Since less energy is spent on digesting juices, more energy is available for expelling toxins. By refraining from eating solid food, the body, specifically the intestinal tract, is able to recover from the damage and stress caused by digestion. It also allows your immune system to focus on eliminating other bodily toxins.

In a juice fast, you may also drink other fluids, such as herbal teas and water. This allows your urinary tract to eliminate the necessary toxins in your body. Your kidneys will filter the toxins out from your bloodstream and incorporate them in your urine.

While you are cleansing your body from the toxins brought about by regular food, you are also depositing valuable vitamins, minerals and antioxidants from various fruits and vegetables. Thus, you are still able to receive nutrition for your body even when dieting. Juice fasting also results in weight loss, by promoting fat metabolism in the body.

Once the juice fast is done, you can go back to your regular diet. However, some practitioners prefer to continue to restrict themselves from eating animal products, or totally eliminate the products from their diets, preventing re-accumulation of dangerous toxins in their bodies.
